SUMMARY:Tech Camp 2026
DESCRIPTION:Tech Camp is an immersive\, invitation-only summer camp experience for central Iowa high school students. Since the first camp in 2013\, a cohort of 8th or 9th grade students are invited each year with consideration given to socioeconomic status\, gender and ethnicity/race. The new cohort\, as well as the previous four cohorts\, are invited to attend the one-week summer camp. Thus\, many students in the program attend camp each year for up to five years as students who attend three or more years become eligible to receive a scholarship upon high school graduation.  \nDuring Tech Camp\, students attend inspirational speaker sessions\, technology exploration sessions and participate in other activities. Technology sessions are organized into tracks of software\, hardware and physical computing or web development and media. Technologies and topics typically presented include\, but are not limited to\, Agile\, Arduino\, cloud computing\, cybersecurity\, engineering\, game development\, HTML/CSS/JS\, machine learning\, Python and robotics. All sessions are delivered by local technology professionals serving as volunteer speakers\, facilitators and mentors. Students not only learn from and get to work alongside the professionals\, but they get to engage with the professionals while discussing education\, careers\, jobs\, motivations\, skills\, recommended resources and the like.

SUMMARY:2026 Girls Who Code Camp
DESCRIPTION:New to coding or experienced — join us in community and learning more about women in tech! \n\n\n\n\nGirls Who Code (GWC) Des Moines is a program for students in grades six to twelve to build coding skills and community while learning about women in tech. A nationally recognized movement\, GWC clubs are a sisterhood of supportive peers and role models using computer science to change the world. Local female technology professionals serve as mentors\, working with students at camp and during monthly club meetups throughout the year. \nThe Girls Who Code Des Moines 2026 Summer Camp will take place on Wednesday\, August 12 and Thursday\, August 13\, 2026\, from 9am to 4pm each day at ITA Group. \nNo coding experience is necessary to participate. This year’s camp is built around artificial intelligence\, robotics\, and real-world tech careers — with hands-on sessions designed for all skill levels. Highlights include: \n\nAI Prompt Engineering — Learn how to communicate with AI tools to get powerful results\, no coding required\nAI Safety & Red Teaming — Think critically about AI output and learn responsible AI practices\nHands-On Robotics — Program Finch robots alongside experienced facilitators\nApplied AI in the Real World — Hear from industry professionals about what AI careers look like today\nInspiring speakers including a 13-year-old published author\, IT leadership veterans\, and women working at the cutting edge of technology\n\nLunch is provided both days. \nRequirements: \n\nStudents in grades six to twelve\nA Girls Who Code club account (see below)\nCommitment to attending both days\n\nAs a free camp with limited seats\, Tech Journey gives priority to students who can commit to full attendance.
